The role of reactive oxygen species in mitochondrial morphology
Integrate results from research papers to create a literature overview that describes the mechanisms by which reactive oxygen species affect mitochondrial morphology.
Background: Mitochondrial morphology is determined by a protein machinery regulating fusion and fission and several other processes such as mitophagy. These processes are highly dynamic and aim to optimize mitochondrial functioning. Recent in vitro experiments provided a link between reactive oxygen species and mitochondrial morphology.
Questions: Which proteins are redox sensitive and involved in mitochondrial morphology? Which type of redox modifications are responsible?
Aim: Integrate results from research papers to create a literature overview that describes the mechanisms by which reactive oxygen species affect mitochondrial morphology. The aim is to go into depth by describing molecular pathways or the involvement of specific protein(s).
