Plastic soup in The Netherlands

The phrase ‘plastic soup’ originated in relation to the many fragmented small pieces of plastic within and below the great ‘Garbage Patch’ in the North Pacific Ocean. But plastic soup develops anywhere where winds and currents concentrate floating materials, with associated dangers to animals that specifically forage in such locations.
A clear example of such a situation for the Netherlands was described in the journal SULA of the Dutch Seabird Group - Nederlandse Zeevogelgroep (NZG):
