Role of sirtuins in anti-aging interventions
To provide a literature review about sirtuins functioning and different approaches to influence these enzymes.
Background: Sirtuins are NAD-dependent deacetylases that modify multiple protein substrates to execute diverse biological functions. The implication of sirtuins in medically important (and aging-related) areas, such as diabetes, cancer cardiovascular dysfunction and neurodegenerative disease has made these sirtuins an interesting target for nutritional and therapeutic development.
Questions: What strategies can be used to target sirtuins functioning that may result in healthy aging?
Aims: To provide a literature review about sirtuins functioning and different approaches to influence these enzymes.
