Stakeholder Dialogue Healthy & Safe Food Systems

We need a food system that is inclusive and sustainable in providing healthy and safe food products. Achieving this will be possible with a systems approach with consideration of multiple aspects; sustainable food production and products as well as consumption patterns. There are many challenges to tackle; Food-related diseases such as obesity and diabetes type 2 are increasing at an alarming rate. On the other hand, novel pathogens are emerging in our foods and food fraud is on the rise.

How can we strengthen each other in defining specific research questions to be able to make a change and in implementing the solutions?

A collective action is needed to better understand and tackle these challenges. This means that we need to engage with each other and include perspectives of the actors in the food system. Changemakers, who will shape and drive the changes needed in the food system, will connect in a pre-competitive collaboration with other researchers and stakeholders to explore routes for change through dialogue.

Healthy and Safe Food Systems research programme

Healthy and Safe Food systems is one of the Knowledge base programmes in WUR which is financed by the ministry of LNV with a middle to long-term focus. Our objective is to provide the world with healthy, nutritious and safe food, helping to build healthy diets and lifestyle while respecting the boundaries of our planet.

Wageningen University & Research

WUR’s mission is to enable the most viable route bridging the gap between health and nutrition, food safety and sustainability to allow for longer healthy active and vital life.

WUR is connecting researchers with stakeholders to develop a common view and together explore routes for change. WUR is perfectly suited to contribute to these solutions providing knowledge covering all relevant fields from primary production to consumers, from human biology to systems thinking. WUR is also positioned to organize action being connected to essential stakeholders.
