Strategic partner

Within Wageningen UR's mission 'To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life', LEI Wageningen UR carries out socio-economic research and advises businesses and governments in making strategic choices within the domain of healthy food and living environments.

LEI Wageningen UR is the authoritative institute in the Netherlands in its field; namely, socio-economic research in the domain of healthy food and living environments. Within Europe, LEI is seen as one of the leading agricultural-economic institutes in the world. LEI is active in all three of Wageningen UR's domains: 1. Healthy lifestyle and livelihood; 2. Food and food production; and 3. Living environment. LEI Wageningen UR is a leading independent scientific research institute which primarily carries out commissioned research and often works together with partners.

Food security, climate change, energy scarcity, globalisation, health, and the economic crisis are major social issues which influence the focus of our work. Our primary challenge is how to achieve more with fewer means by developing sustainable energy and food systems while leaving room for nature.
