12:00 - 13:30 Workshop Stress Management

How have you been handling your stress lately? Would you like to learn about how to manage your (study)stress better? As a warming-up for the Surf your Stress Week you can join this interactive lecture on stress management by André Rozendaal to find out more. Stress is a hot topic. Not the least amongst students. Students report for example that they experience stress in relation to study pressure, study loans and social media. In this lecture, we will dive into ways in which you can effectively deal with stress. This includes learning about your own relationship with stress and the root causes of stress. The aim is to give you tips and tools to learn how to deal with stress and tension and how to develop psychological flexibility.

- Does your WhatsApp feel like a to-do list?
- Does everyone seem more attractive, active and happy - on Instagram - than you?
The Wageningen Inspring Theater (Jump-in Theatre) brings Social Media Solitude, Phone Stress and Whats-app Madness to life. The scenes they play are drawn from student life; they hold up a mirror to you. Confrontational and hilarious at the same time.

12:00 - 13:30 Catch your energy in colour - Painting workshop (FULL)

Evoke your energy and creativity with colour, wake up the artist within you. Colour is radiant energy that travels fast in waves. These visible reflections of frequencies in the electromagnetic spectrum evoke emotions. We experience some as calming, others as stimulating. As certain colours can alter your mood, it is believed to restore imbalances in energy. Blue may encourage a sense of calm, purple can invoke a tranquility that helps reduce stress. But yellow, its complementary colour, can also counteract stress and improve your mood. Artists know that colours influence each other too. They look for balance, intensity, expression. Even if you have not painted in years, this workshop is for you. Your hands will guide you: let colours flow, create smooth, subtle shades or vibrating combinations. Express feelings, an inner world, or just add some colour to it. It’s fun to do too.

“CineScience gives you unique and accessible insights in the scientific work of Wageningen researchers while enjoying an inspirational night at the cinema. The film First Reformed will be introduced by Dr. Abigail Muscat ”A lonely and depressed pastor of a small historical church, Ernst, suffers from extreme PTSD and guilt after a parishioner's spouse takes his own life. This suicide is a trigger point for Ernst as it brings back painful and regretful memories of his own son. He soon spirals out of control.Dr. Abigail Muscat on "First Reformed"
How to deal with climate depression? In First Reformed, a grieving priest is tasked with giving council to an emotionally unstable environmentalist who has given up hope that the world will heal from climate change. In her talk, dr. Abigail Muscat talks about the role of hope on a heating planet. Inspired by the philosophical works of Hannah Arendt and Albert Camus, she asks the same questions facing the priest: Should we continue to hope for a better future? And can we look at ‘hope’ as a skill that can be developed? Questions relevant for many of us these days, and a relevant topic to touch upon during WUR’s Surf Your Stress Week.

12:00 - 13:30 Climate Anxiety - How to deal with it (FULL)

Are you at times overwhelmed by the information about climate change and ecological collapse? Do you feel powerless in the face of large-scale processes that affect our climate and environment? Join this workshop to support and empower yourself for these challenging times. Tap into your inner strength, courage and inspiration.
Climate anxiety is a combination of feelings that someone can experience when having concerns about the state of the world. In this workshop we will explore ways in which we can become more resilient in facing climate anxiety. We make space for our feelings - for example grief - and find solace in the fact that we are not alone. Through listening to our emotions, we also hear what they have to tell us about our commitment to a healthy planet. We release some of the weight we feel on our shoulders and explore ways for moving into action. Action can then be grounded from a place of inner strength and inspired by active hope.
