Transition and innovation in natural resource governance
Spatial planning, as the coordination of practices affecting space, has the potential to make a significant contribution to landscape and environmental protection and sustainable development.
Planning, both in science and in practice, differs from other disciplines because it offers the means to link and integrate the natural and social dimension of the issues at stake and to translate knowledge into action, ambition into reality.
We aim to study the various ways planning is performed in different practices and to translate the knowledge from these studies to develop new concepts, strategies and instruments. Important issues are competing claims, participatory approaches, the growing dominance of legal forms of decision-making, and internationalisation.
