Tropical Forests and Climate Change: developing a policy synergies for adaptation and mitigation in the Congo Basin
Ph.D. Candidate: Olufunso Somorin (olufunso.somorin@wur.nl)
This research seeks to develop policy-oriented synergy for adaptation and mitigation strategies for the region. It aims to show that forests and climate change policies, and those of other related sectors, which are needed to address issues, should be integrated with each other, towards adaptation and mitigation. This is because a cross-sectoral approach will be essential if the benefits derived from one area or activity are not to be lost or counteracted in another. This research will be in agreement with a number of assertions, especially that synergies in climate policy are created when measures that control atmospheric GHG concentrations also reduce adverse effects of climate change, or vice-versa, and such measures have ancillary benefits, which produces win-win situations.
