Expertise

Functional proteomics and genomics related to the effects of food ingredients, e.g. flavonoids, on cells and animals. Investigations on mitochondrial generation of reactive oxygen species and energy and its impact on ageing markers and apoptosis as influenced by food compounds.

Relevant projects and functions

Prof. Wenzel is funded by the German Research Fundation for the next three years for studying the effects of flavonoids on ageing processes in the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans. Those studies are focussed on the effects such food compounds of plants have on mitochondrial functions.
