Vacancy: Lecturer Freehand and Digital Visualization

The chair group Landscape Architecture is part of Wageningen University. The chair group performs research and education in the field of landscape architecture, with a focus on design. Its mission is to develop sustainable landscapes through the (re-) designing of rural and urban space, mediating between worlds of knowledge in the natural and social sciences, the arts and the humanities. Its specific competence is to boldly deal with the various scale levels of complex and dynamic landscape systems and to propose meaningful and imaginative design solutions. Contributions are made to solving today’s and future pressing (global) problems related to i.e. climate change, transition to renewable energy, water management, preserving biodiversity, urbanisation.

Job description:

The lecturer will contribute to the education in landscape architecture. Freehand visualization includes the sketching and drawing of objects, and rural and urban landscapes (bird’s eyes view as well as eye-level view), emphasizing orthographic and cartographic projections at various scale levels, linear code, form and dimension, topology, construction, plane texture and colour articulation. Digital visualization includes tutorial courses and exercises on the use of software for, among others, 3D vector drawing and modelling, photo editing, digital imaging, and graphic design. The visualization courses are closely connected to design studios and courses on planting and construction. Coaching of master students focuses on the lay-out and manufacturing of attractive and explanatory posters, summarizing an adequate selection of research and design results.

Requirements:

The successful candidate:

  • holds an Academy of Art or comparable degree;
  • has substantial experience in freehand and digital visualization (i.e. SketchUp, Photoshop, Adobe CS6, AutoCAD);
  • has substantial experience in landscape architecture and urban design;
  • is an inspiring teacher with proven experience in course development and in teaching to international classes at both undergraduate and graduated levels;
  • has excellent didactic and communication skills;
  • has excellent command of Dutch and English;
  • is an innovative, ambitious and enthusiastic team player.

 

Conditions of employment:

We offer a part time (12 hours per week) contract as a lecturer within the chair group Landscape Architecture for initially 3 years, which can lead to an extension of the contract. Actual working hours will be dependent upon the course schedule. Gross salary will be appropriate to the position and dependent on expertise and experience (max. scale 11).
