Wageningen Experience Day - Saturday 7 October 2023

This year, Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is celebrating its 105th anniversary. That is why we are going to make the Wageningen Experience Day (WED) extra special this year. On Saturday 7 October, all alumni and employees and their families are welcome to come and take a look at Wageningen Campus. Will we see you there?

WED: Wageningen Experience Day

This year, Wageningen University & Research (WUR) celebrates its 105th anniversary. That is why we are going to make the Wageningen Experience Day (WED) extra special this year. On Saturday 7 October, all alumni, employees and their families are welcome to come and have a look around Wageningen Campus. The main programme of this festive day will take place in and around the new Omnia building, the central spot on campus where science and society meet.

We can already provide you with a sneak peek. Visitors can expect:

  • Talkshows: what does the world look like in 105 years from now? And, how does WUR research plays a role? We will explore these questions with the following guests;
  • Table guests and their topics:
    Chair of the board of WUR, Sjoukje Heimovaara - Shaping sustainable futures
    Wieger Wamelink - What does growing food on Mars looks like
    Imke de Boer - Role of the animal in the food system
    Tim van Hattum - What will the Netherlands look like in 105 years?
    Gerlinde de Deyn and Mark Verkerk - Movie 'Onder het maaiveld'
    Sander van den Burg - Seaweed
    Hester Biemans - Impact of melting glaciers on global food production
    Ute Sass Klaassen - How do trees react to climate change?
    Anneke Groen - Displaying special objects from the special collection of WUR
    Geneal Harreman - TV chef surprises participants with dishes;
  • Show cabaret artist: WUR alumnus Rob Urgert;
  • Movie: 'Onder het maaiveld' will be shown twice in Omnia, once the adult version and once the children's version;
  • Exploring: visit rooms set up about food on Mars and WUR's special collection.
    But there is also a lot more to discover outside on the Campus, such as visiting the World Soil Museum, the gardens of Omnia and Lumen, and the greenhouses of Npec/Unifarm. But there is even more, you can also join campus tours.
    And children can go on a journey of discovery with Geert-Jan Roebers from the movie 'Onder het Maaiveld;
  • Active part: participate in our interactive programme. Have a shot at winning the special WED quiz;
  • Book lovers: looking for interesting literature? Visit the special WED book market where you will find books written by alumni but also books with WUR-related themes. Tim van Hattum, Imke de Boer and nature children's book author Geert-Jan Roebers will be signing their books. Are you a WUR alumnus and have you written non-scientific literature yourself? Submit it via alumni@wur.nl;
  • Fun with music and entertainment: including Robot Pepper;
  • And all that makes you hungry: you will find various food trucks across the Campus;
  • And much more!

WWW: World Wide Wageningen

In line with previous editions, the Wageningen Experience Day will also have an online programme. After all, Wageningers can be found in all corners of the world. Alumni joining us online can watch a livestream of the talkshows or watch them at a later time, and they can also (re)connect with each other and learn about the latest research and educational developments at their alma mater.

105 Years WUR

This year, WUR celebrates its 105th anniversary. This activity is part of the festive lustrum programme with the theme ‘Shaping Sustainable Futures’. Visit the website for more information about 105 years WUR.
