Writing good and impactful scientific texts can be a struggle. However, some essential tips would make the process of writing much easier. In this interactive workshop, the invited speaker, Prof. Wim van der Putten, will stimulate a discussion on the essential elements of outstanding writing, as well as share with you his experience gained in his successful and broad scientific career. The workshop will touch upon four main topics:

  • how to ‘sell’ your research
  • how to convey the innovative aspects of your research idea
  • how to describe the impact of your research idea
  • tips and tricks on the writing process

Speaker: Prof. Wim van der Putten is Head of the Department of Terrestrial Ecology at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology. He is the head of the department of Multitrophic Interactions at the Netherlands institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW) since 2000. In 2005, he was awarded a VICI-grant from NWO-ALW (the Dutch research council), and in 2012 he obtained an ERC-Advanced grant from the European Research Council. Wim has been associated editor of the Journal of Coastal Research, Plant and Soil, Plant Biology, the Journal of Applied Ecology, Oikos and Oecologia. Currently, he is associate editor of Ecology Letters and board reviewing editor at Science. Wim has also been the coordinator of several European research projects (EUREED, CLUE, INVASS, EcoTrain, as well as PI in a number of European projects.
