Hi, there! For the last six months I did my MSc thesis at the nematology chairgroup. Or more specifically, I was a part of the NLR-Effector group. Here I investigated suppression of the hypersensitive response caused by the potato receptor Gpa2-mediated recognition of the Globodera pallida effector protein RBP-1.

If you are reading that for the first time it probably sounds a bit daunting, but during the first phase where I wrote my proposal there was enough time to explore the topic in depth. I liked that there was a lot of room to come up with my own ideas for experiments and theories about the model behind the protein interactions. Although you also shouldn’t be afraid to ask ‘stupid’ questions if you get stuck or don’t understand something directly, because your supervisor and other chairgroup members are there to help you to improve your skills and knowledge. Altogether my time at nematology helped me improve my scientific research skills and despite the corona measurements that were in place, I got to enjoy the friendly and cooperative atmosphere.
