Student testimonial
Brenda van Klaarbergen: The group is very enthusiastic, motivated and interested
As a student of the distance learning Master Plant Breeding (online) I am very interested in plant diseases and genetics. I am especially interested in the potato crop, which has high yield losses from nematodes like PCN.
I had the opportunity to perform my Master’s thesis for the Laboratory of Nematology and do research to these PCN. For me it was a nice opportunity, because I could work on a subject where nematology, molecular biology and plant breeding was combined. The goal of my research was to identify biosynthetic null-mutant potatoes for PCN hatching factor Solanoeclepin A. I got to work in the nematology lab, molecular lab and in the greenhouse.
Because my master is online and I am working from a distance, it required some flexibility regarding to meetings and feedback moments. Fortunately this worked out very well and I had good contact with my supervisor from WUR online and in-person. During the few moments that I had to be at Wageningen, I really enjoyed being around the people in the nematology group. The group is very enthusiastic, motivated and interested. I am grateful that I got to work with them and I would truly recommend doing your thesis at the nema group.
