Follow-Up Training
During my final year at the HAN it became clear to me that I wasn’t ready for a job yet. I wanted to enhance my knowledge and learn how to think more analytically. Furthermore the opportunities on the labour market were not very favourable. This was the deciding factor: I wanted to continue with a Master’s. My interest are very broad, so I was open to a large number of programs. I couldn’t find anything that fit, until I received an email from my Study Advisor at the HAN about the opportunity to do a Master’s Applied Communication Science at Wageningen University.
Two-year Master’s
After some research it turned out that this Master’s was, among others, focussed on Agriculture and Heath. These fields fit my specialisations during my minor and thesis very well. Also, I was drawn to the fact that a Master’s at the WUR last for two years, in contrast to Master’s at other universities. Here there are courses for an entire year, knowledge is tested and developed during the internship and there is ample opportunity for a program or internship abroad.
Multidisciplinary Project
During the first Master’s year there was, besides all of the courses, also a multidisciplinary project in which we worked together with seven students from different Master’s to design a plan to make the inner city of Amsterdam greener in an unexpected way. It was very informative to work together between multiple disciplines and eventually the results were even stated in the Parool and the Volkskrant. A pleasant incidental! Momentarily I am doing an extra minor in Food Security and I am searching for a topic for my thesis. After finishing my thesis I hope to do an internship in South Africa.
