Ineke Vergeer: By trying something new I managed to expand my skills, which I will be able to use later on
I am grateful that I was able to do my thesis at Nematology. The cordial atmosphere made me feel welcome instantly. Because of this friendly atmosphere it was easy to approach anyone for questions, and my ideas always seemed valued. Looking back at everything I learned in the past four months, I am proud of the growth I have achieved, which I thank to the great guidance that was given.
For my thesis I decided to do bioinformatics, rather than wet lab experiments which were more in my comfort zone. Although I was slightly hesitant about this at first, I am glad I made this choice. By trying something new I managed to expand my skills, which I will be able to use later on. The great support from my supervisors made applying bioinformatics a lot easier than expected.
I really enjoyed the space that was given for my personal development. The thesis rings and feedback from my supervisors helped me improve my writing skills, and the independence that was given to me taught me how to take responsibilities for my own work. It was very nice to have worked with people from Nematology. They made an enjoyable ending of my bachelor.
