Meindert - I think the programme here is good as it is a combination between the management studies and the facility management

My educational background is a professional bachelor (HBO in Amersfoort) in the direction of facility management. I liked it but it was really operational and at the end I had the feeling that I know a little bit of everything, but not enough. That is why I have decided to go to a university. In the Netherlands there are only two schools where facility management is offered on a MSc level. One is WU and the other is in Deventer, but the second is authorised to give MSc diplomas only by the UK government but not by the Dutch one, which makes it kind of a private education.

The study is small which makes your chances of finding work one day much higher.

Study programme
Therefore, the good name of Wageningen University along with my desire to learn more about the strategic aspects of facility management made me take the decision to come to Wageningen. In general terms, I think the programme here is good as it is a combination between the management studies and the facility management. But still the focus is on the facility management. You study about the complete company and what the place of facility management plays in it. Additionally, the field of facility management is a young one and is not yet widely-spread, so to obtain a degree in it is a real professional advantage.

What I can say about the courses is that their standard is quite good and it seems to me that I know a lot more as the material goes much deeper. I am also very satisfied with the teachers as compared to other universities here you just send one email or approach them with a question and they are very helpful. The reputation of the programme is quite good thanks to the contribution of Prof. Wagenberg and his authority in the field. On the other hand the study is small which makes your chances of finding work one day much higher. After my graduation I hope to work for a consultancy firm, so not in internal company but more advising. My hope is to see as many companies as possible which will give me the opportunity to see how the system works in the different organisations.

About Wageningen, I might say that it is a very nice city. I live in a student house in the centre together with 11 people and I like it as we get along. On the whole, I am happy with the choice I have made about coming to Wageningen and I have no regrets at all.
