Michelle de Roo: "The societal relevance of the subject matter added to my motivation"
My thesis journey with the SOC group has been incredibly rewarding. It all began with a group project on PFAS pollution, which led me to approach Rob Comans to discuss the possibility of writing my thesis on PFAS speciation in soil and sediment. Together, we carefully outlined the project's details.
What I particularly enjoyed was the freedom to choose a topic that aligned with my interests and background. Moreover, the societal relevance of the subject matter added to my motivation. The invaluable guidance I received struck a perfect balance between independent work and timely supervision when needed. I also enjoyed the hands-on experience in the group's laboratory and subsequent data modelling.
