Peter, Louise O. Fresco Fund recipient

Due to his medically unexplained illness Peter had a financial situation that threatened following his study programme. Thanks to a contribution from the Louise O. Fresco Fund, he can now complete his study programme without financial worries.

With the financial support from this Fund, I am now able to continue my studies without the constant insecurity of external financial circumstances.
Peter, MSc Biology

"My name is Peter. I am 29 years old and since September 2021 I am following the Biology master programme at the Wageningen University. After finishing my bachelor’s degree of Applied Biology in Den Bosch it was quite clear to me that I wanted to deepen my understanding of the intricate nature of ecosystems. The choice to continue my education programme here in Wageningen was easy from an academic perspective. However, for more than 4 years now, I have been dealing with a medically unexplained illness that limits my available energy (both physically and mentally). Even though, chronic fatigue may sound rather trivial, it affects every part of life. After a difficult period, I decided to not let this condition limit my ambitions and goals. I realized that I had the capacity to deal with the circumstances and grow myself as a person as well as a professional if could organise my life in a supportive way."

"The reality is that these conditions do not allow to supplement my income with a side job. And therefore, my ability to follow this study programme was subsequently imperilled by my financial situation. I resorted to applying for various social benefit programmes, but my specific circumstances resulted in rejection. Consulting my dean resulted in some final possibilities. Quitting my studies to save up money in order to be able to finish it later became a real possibility. Luckily, during these conversations I learned about the Louis O. Fresco Fund, and this provided a chance for a durable resolution."

"With the financial support from this Fund, I am now able to continue my studies without the constant insecurity of external financial circumstances. This allows me to focus on my academic goals, and I believe it could also contribute to the process of recovery. Next summer I aim to finish my master’s degree. Restoring the balance of large-scale ecosystems in a global context is my main objective. In this way, I hope to pass on the support, that I was so fortunate to receive through the Louise O. Fresco Fund. For this opportunity I would like to thank everyone that has been so kind to contribute. I am glad that there are so many people who are doing their best to make our world an even better place."
