Rob Nijhof: One aspect that truly impressed me was the open and laid back atmosphere within the department
‘’My thesis provided me with valuable insights into and behind the world of academia.’’
I had the opportunity of pursuing my thesis at Nematology, where I embarked on a unique project focused on education within the field of plant sciences. One aspect that truly impressed me was the open and laid back atmosphere within the department. From regular work meetings to informal gatherings after symposia.
Despite pursuing a different kind of thesis that didn't involve lab work, I found a lot of value in the guidance and support provided by my supervisor, the department and especially the other thesis students. My thesis focused on exploring the design of combining self-assessment and peer assessment in a first-year plant sciences course. Although it diverged from the typical nematology studies, I was met with enthusiasm and curiosity from the department.
Looking back on my thesis journey, I realized just how much I have grown, both personally and academically. The nature of my project provided me with valuable insights into and behind the world of academia. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have done a thesis at Nematology, and I am excited to see where my scientific career takes me next.
