Collective spirit, innovative projects and research freedom: these are the words that come to my mind when I recall my experience at the Laboratory of Nematology. While the project that I worked on focused on the intracellular targets of a nematode effector protein, it was also especially relevant to plant immunity and developmental biology in general.

I had the opportunity to be independent when designing my experiments and used diverse techniques ranging from molecular cloning and heterologous protein expression in Nicotiana benthamiana to protein co-immunoprecipitation and fluorescence microscopy. I also had the chance to benefit from the immense theoretical background and practical experience of long-term experts in the lab. While the three main groups in the lab focus on seemingly unrelated topics in modern biology, this also allowed unceasing learning, exchange of ideas, and creativity. Work meetings, coffee breaks, and lunches were stimulating and cheering, but also the time for fruitful scientific discussions. Important events, from birthdays to new publications and PhD defenses were celebrated together, honoring the commitment of everyone involved and creating an atmosphere of togetherness.
