Student testimonial

Filippo Rey: "The learning goals were met in research and laboratory skills and in communication, organization and networking"

When being challenged as a student with a thesis project at the Nematology department, you will experience a before and after effect. Starting as a student, at the end of the process, I have brought home a full rounded knowledge of the ins and outs of ecological research.

Working along with supervisors not only at Nematology, as well at Wageningen food safety research and Netherlands institute of ecology (Nioo-Knaw), in a multidisciplinary project, we assessed the rising steroid hormone contamination in soils and its effect on bacterivorous soil nematodes.

Bridging between different research fields, from ecology to analytical chemistry, the learning goals were met not only in terms of research and laboratory skills as well in communication, organization and networking. The study experience would have not been the same without the supervision here at Nematology. Where students are guided in terms of required skills, but let free to experience failure and implementing solutions. Where your project from an idea or real life issue, is shaped into a concrete research deliverable.
