Men’s Basketball Coach
Your job
As basketball coach, you will be responsible for training and guiding the competition players of student sports club Sphinx Men’s 1. The club has over 80 (student) members.
Training sessions take place on Monday from 18:30–20:00 and Wednesday from 17:30–19:00 (other times may be possible in consultation with the club) and are provided by Sports Centre de Bongerd in cooperation with Sphinx.
The Sphinx Men’s 1 team competes in the Dutch Basketball Association (NBB) Men’s Senior 3rd Division (pool 03).
Your main task is to develop the competition players, both individually and as a team, with the goal of improving their skill level, enjoyment of the game, and competitive performance.
In addition to your regular training courses, you will also participate in teacher meetings, refresher training activities, We-Day, AID and/or staff outings, which take place a few times a year outside your normal working hours.
Your qualities
You are an active, initiating person, in which the competencies of customer focus, cooperation, sociability, coaching, flexibility and enthusiasm play an important role.
You also have/are:
- Basketball Coach 3 (BC3)
- Ambitious trainer who shows clear leadership and has an eye for the interests of the association;
- A trainer who stands above the group' but also dares to be 'in between' if possible/necessary and is part of the social hour after a match or training;
- Being able to deal with the target group 'student' in a relaxed way;
- A trainer who pays attention to the advancement of existing members and the integration of new students;
- Someone who fits within the current club culture and has knowledge of and can deal with different cultural backgrounds;
- You can function independently and proactively;
- You have a good command of the Dutch and English language;
- You have experience in training adults (advantage).

The Sports Centre de Bongerd (SCB) of Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is responsible for the sports program for students and staff of WUR. A total of 6500 students and 900 employees actively use the sports centre, which consists of 45 specialized sports teachers, 9 management and administration staff. The CPC has an initiating and active role in the implementation of the health program Vital@work. The sports centre is located on the edge of the campus and is the base for the various student sports associations. Due to the large number of international students and staff, the language of instruction on campus (and at GVC) is largely English.

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3.218,- and €4.298,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 8). This is a temporary appointment for an initial period of 12 months (1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026). An extension to a permanent contract of 3 teaching hours per week is possible.
