Two webinars on animal breeding: Inbreeding and DNA information
Breeding programmes are essential to maintain and improve animal breeds, especially with smaller local breeds. The basic principles of breeding, inbreeding and conservation of genetic diversity were discussed during two online webinars.
All information is combined and online available in the Dossier Fokken met verstand (Dutch only).
During the two evening sessions, the risks of inbreeding and possible measures to decrease high inbreeding rates were discussed on November 5th. On the 3rd of December, the use of DNA information in a breeding programme were discussed.
The webinars were organized by the Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands (CGN) and the Dutch Rare Breeds Foundation. All presentations are online available (Dutch only) and can be found in the dossier: Fokken met verstand.
