External PhD Candidate SDC Group

My current name is Sandra Megens (from Sandra Verónica de Fátima Santos Valencia). I am an external Ph.D. student, focus on drought and water scarcity at the transboundary basin in the North of Ecuador. My research focuses on optimizing adaptation strategies with respect to drought and water scarcity in Ecuador using a disaster risk governance framework on transboundary waters. I had taught several courses in critical thinking, examining the political and social challenges of adapting participatory water governance in the national and international community. Other areas of study that I pursue include private-public cooperation, environmental water problems, disaster risk management on floods and drought, climate change and climate migration.

My education, work, and volunteer experiences have led her to develop environmental tools to address conflict and water problems. I worked as an advisor on water issues at the Ministry of Transport Public Works and Water Management, Rijkwaterstaat in the Netherlands (RWS), as an Ecuadorian government consultant on water issues and governance, as an external advisor to Ecuador National Risk Management Secretary (SNGR).
