FNP at the Paris Climate Summit (COP21)
Five FNP members, both staff and PhD researchers, visited the Paris Climate Summit the last two weeks. They were involved in presenting Wageningen UR at COP21, in research activities on international climate negotiations and in site events, particularly on REDD+, landscapes and CSA.
Bas Arts, Tabitha Muriuki, Jessica de Koning, Hens Runhaar and Cinthia Soto all visited COP21 during the last two weeks. Soto and Muriuki executed field research – interviews, conversations, observations – on international climate diplomacy and the role of forests (REDD+) and climate smart agriculture (CSA) in the Paris Agreement and beyond. De Koning and Arts were part of the Wageningen UR team that presented itself at a site event in the Netherlands Climate House (December 1). Runhaar was a keynote speaker during the COP 21 side event “Protecting health in a 2°C world: what are the costs and responsibilities?”, organised by WHO and PBL (Netherland Environmental Assessment Agency) (December 2). And all visited site events, of which the Global Landscape Forum (December 4) was one of the most relevant. Finally, some wrote daily blogs on COP21 for the Wageningen UR site (see here). Although of course limited in size and impact, FNP thus tried to contribute to a successful Paris Climate Summit. You can read more about the summit here.
