Plant-parasitic nematodes are sedentary endoparasites that infect many important food crops and are major agro-economical pests worldwide. The plant hormone IAA is an auxin that plays a major role in the nematode’s infection process.

In this review we evaluate this role in multiple aspects involved in auxin homeostasis in plants, including anabolism, catabolism, transport, and signalling. We find that they evolved multiple strategies to effect these aspects and that there is a potential role for auxins other than IAA in the infection process.
