Publication: Parallel adaptations and common host cell responses enabling feeding of obligate and facultative plant parasitic nematodes
In this review paper, we describe common host cell responses in feeding sites of independently evolved lineages of plant parasitic nematodes.
These distinct lineages of plant parasites may use the same molecular tools (e.g., effectors and other biologically active compounds) to induce these common cellular changes in plant cells to secure a steady flow of nutrients. However, some of the common host cell responses may not require specific inputs from feeding nematodes, and could also be triggered by endogenous signals in response to stress.
