E (Eko) Nugroho MSc


Eko Nugroho has been starting his PhD training in the Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy (AEP)Chair Group of the Wageningen University and Research Centre (WUR) since March 2016. He was previously graduated from the international MSc program of Agricultural Sciences in the Tropics and Subtropics at the University of Hohenheim in Germany with specialization in rural development economic.

His MSc thesis was assessing socio-economic conditions of moderately and mildly malnourished children admitted in specific intervention programs in Nias Island, Indonesia. Eko has been working as an academic staff at the Department of Socio-economic of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Brawijaya University in Indonesia since 2005 and delivering some subjects related to socio-economic of animal husbandry such as Extension, Rural Community Development and Planning and Evaluation of Rural Extension.

During his academic career, he has participated in several research projects excecuted by foreign and national researchers. For instance, he assisted research activities executed by two foreign researchers e.g. “The Livestock and Land Use in Java, c 1850 – present” with Miss Martine Wilhelmina Barwegen (Ecology, Demography and Economy of Nusantara – Royal Institute of Linguistics and Anthropologies – the Wageningen Agricultural University, The Netherlands). He also assisted Professor Michael R. Reed (University of Kentucky, USA) as a consultant of the Lousiana State University in “The Survey of Meat Market Potential in East Java”.

He was also involved in various research and public service projects funded by several Indonesian government institutions such as Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock services, Directorate General of Higher Education and Bank Indonesia. Eko and his colleagues recently developed a good cattle farming practice module for smallholder farmers in Tuban, East Java funded by The Australia Indonesia Partnership for Promoting Rural Income through Support for Markets in Agriculture (AIP-PRISMA).

He is interested in rural development issues e.g. farm household analysis, rural community empowerment and extension. His current PhD training will delve into socio-economic assessment of rural farm housholds who integrate local cattle development and forestry system in rural East Java, Indonesia under supervision Prof. Dr. Wim Heijman from the AEP chair group and Dr. Simon J. Oosting from the Animal Production System chair group.
