Since many years the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) organises a 3-month research opportunity for talented young researchers to collaborate with IIASA on issues of global environmental, economic and social change. Katalin Petz is among the selected list of candidates for this year’s summer program.

Katalin is going to work together with Dr. Marijn van der Velde and Dr. Florian Klaxner from the newly established Ecosystem Services and Management research program. She is going to synthetize scientific information about how land management activities can be integrated into spatial models of ecosystem service. The work is part of her PhD “Modelling the effect of land management strategies on biodiversity and ecosystem services”.

Founded in 1972 the IIASA is an independent international research organization that conducts policy-oriented research into problems that are too large or too complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline. These problems include climate change, food and energy security and sustainable development. The institute is located in Austria near Vienna, in the Laxenburg Palace, the picturesque former summer residence of the Habsburg Empress Elisabeth (“Sissi”).
