PhD project
Forecast Information and Flood and Climate Risk Management  for Agricultural Production in Jamalpur District of Bangladesh

Description
This PhD research is a part of NICHE-BGD-156 project entitled as 'Integrated management of crop-fish-water resources to enhance agricultural production systems towards sustainable food security in Bangladesh'. The NICHE-BGD-156 project has established an Interdisciplinary Centre for Food Security (ICF) in Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU). The mission of ICF is to develop human resource and provide services through collaborative and integrated approach towards solving the food security and related problems of Bangladesh.

As a part of the NICHE-BGD-156 project, my research study intends to explore  how forecasting information does or does not reach farming strategies for flood and climate risk management. Specifically, focusing on potential applications of forecast information by different development agencies working with farmers on flood and climate risk management in Jamalpur District of Bangladesh. The study will assess the scientific forecasting information production, the implementation, communication and use by different organizations and farmers. The study conceptualises this process as socio-technical interactions between different organizations, development workers, forecast information and farmers and their environment guided by concepts derived from Actor-Network Theory, Communication Studies and the notion of skilling.
