Vacancy Assistant Professor in Environmental Systems Analysis (Tenure Track)

The Environmental Systems Analysis group of Wageningen University offers a challenging career path as an Assistant Professor.

The new Assistant Professor will take a leading role in research on the development of environmental systems science, in particular on the development and empirical testing of relevant spatial and temporal modelling approaches, preferably focussing on ecosystem services assessment. (S)he will actively participate in the global network of ecosystem services modelling and collaborations which the ESA group engages in, supported by a broad range of new national and international projects that the ESA group is starting up. (S)he will engage in teaching in the curricula of the Environmental Systems Analysis group at MSc and/or BSc level, and develop new courses. The candidate will develop a research profile capable of attracting PhD students and external funding, and will be expected to contribute in significant ways to the international profile of the group in the field of Environmental Systems Analysis.

We ask

As Assistant Professor you are an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist and a team player, devoted to research and education in the fields of Environmental Systems Analysis with a focus on (spatial) modelling.

The successful candidate:

  1. holds a PhD in Environmental Systems Analysis or a related field
  2. has elaborate experience with modelling including in ArcGIS and preferably
    python or comparable programming
  3. preferably is familiar with ecosystem services modelling
  4. is well-versed in interdisciplinary research methods and the
    analysis of large data sets;
  5. shows an outstanding early career publication record and
    international research profile;
  6. has excellent skills in research design, statistics, organization,
    communication, and scientific writing;
  7. is an inspiring teacher with proven experience in course
    development and in teaching to international classes at both undergraduate
    and graduated levels;
  8. actively participates in (inter)national networks;
  9. has demonstrated to be successful in obtaining research grants in
    competitive funding schemes;
  10. has excellent command of English;
  11. is willing to learn Dutch (non-Dutch candidates).

The Environmental Systems Analysis Group regards the following personal competences as particular important: creativity, a mind-set for innovation, broad interdisciplinary interests, a communicative and collaborative attitude, team-oriented leadership, willingness and ability to participate in field work (also in remote places), and a passion for coaching and teaching.

We offer

Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR) invites applications for an academic position at the level of assistant professor on the subject of Environmental Systems Analysis. We offer you a challenging career trajectory called Tenure Track. From the position of Assistant Professor you can grow into a Professor holding a Personal Chair. You will also be given the chance to build up your own research line. Of course, training and coaching are provided and interdisciplinary (international) cooperation is stimulated. As we will only be selecting outstanding candidates to take part in Tenure Track, this will be a good stepping stone to a further career within Wageningen UR or elsewhere.

We offer you a full time (38 hours per week) contract. Evaluation on job performance is every 3 years, and a positive outcome will continue in a fixed position after 6 years. Salary depends on knowledge and experience. Maximum salary amount € 4,551 a month (gross) (scale 11) based on a full-time employment.
