Wageningen University appoints Extraordinary Professor of Landscape Architecture

Effective 1 September, Wageningen University has appointed Adriaan Geuze, MSc Extraordinary Professor of Landscape Architecture.

With this newly established chair, funded by Alterra Wageningen UR, Geuze will join the Landscape Architecture Group.

Adriaan Geuze (41, from Dordrecht) studied landscape architecture in Wageningen. He is a founding director of West 8 urban design & landscape architecture b.v., an international office with large landscape and urban planning projects both within and beyond the borders of the Netherlands. At the helm of West 8, Geuze has gained international recognition with projects such as Governors Island in New York, Madrid Río and, recently, Jubilee Gardens in London.

Geuze has received many prizes and awards for his work, including the recent Mondriaan Fund Oeuvre Award for architecture. At many institutions of higher learning, including Harvard University, he has fulfilled the role of visiting lecturer.

The specific focus of Professor Geuze’s teaching and research work will be to strengthen students’ design skills and to preserve and develop the quality of metropolitan delta landscapes against the backdrop of influences such as climate change, sustainable development and urbanisation.
