Evi Guggenheim Shbeta and Samah Salaime respectively represent Jews and Palestinians on the front line of peace as part of a model of shared society. As social workers from Wahat al-Salam - Neve Shalom, a community of Palestinians and Jews who have been living peacefully together in Israel for the past 40 years, they share their practical experience in conflict resolution based educational work and shared local governance. Wahat al-Salam Neve Shalom community promotes peace education on a grass root level through four different internationally known non-profit educational institutes. Why does the Wahat al-Salam Neve Shalom method work while elsewhere peace seems so elusive? What are the challenges to peace under the current political environment? To what extent is this exceptional community a viable model for the future of peace elsewhere in the region?
