Biometris provides statistical tool for European assessments of pesticide risks

Chemicals like pesticides and contaminants can have health effects on humans. WUR Biometris has developed statistical models and software to assess the cumulated risk of multiple substances with the same health effect in a satisfactory way. The web-based Monte Carlo Risk Assessment (MCRA) software is made for and positioned at RIVM, which in the Netherlands has the task to perform risk assessments.

MCRA has now been further developed for the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to allow assessments for groups of up to 100 active substances. If initial tests are successfully completed, EFSA hopes to start progressively incorporating cumulative risk assessments into their risk analysis based on official control programmes.
