The project is part of the infrastructure initiativeof the EU to integrate and open infrastructures of European interest. VetBioNetseeks to complement and strengthen the present European capacity and competenceto meet the challenges of (re)emerging infectious diseases by establishing acomprehensive network of pre-eminent European BSL3 infrastructures,international organisations, and industry partners that is dedicated to advanceresearch on epizootic and zoonotic diseases and to promote technologicaldevelopments. 

Objectives are a) to enhance the preparednessof the major European BSL3 facilities to accelerate the response to(re)emerging epizootic and zoonotic threats, b) to carry out joint researchactivities designed to improve the scientific and technological standards forhigh pathogen infectiology research and c) to promote and facilitate access tothe infrastructure resources. In regard to the latter, Wageningen BioveterinaryResearch will provide access and research collaboration to international groupsfrom industry and research to their unique BSL3 farm animal facilities and totheir clinical, pathological and immunological expertise for infectious diseasestudies.
