The Netherlands needs to establish sustainable conditions for all natural species that occurred on its territory in 1982. Part of this species diversity is concentrated and needs to be protected in urban areas.
In order to investigate the distribution of urban species, a GIS analysis will be conducted. Species from the EU Bird Directive, Habitat Directive and Red Lists are selected. The analyses will be used to assess which species cluster in urban areas, in which towns and municipalities they cluster and which biotopes the urban species prefer within urban areas. The analyses will support national authorities, regional authorities and municipalities to define and implement polocieas and protection measures for urban biodiversity.
