A number of institutions in green education make use of the Glassim package from 1994. Since the development of this package, a great deal of research has been carried out in the KaE program with regard to climate control, with the aim of reducing the energy consumption of Dutch greenhouse horticulture. Especially in the field of lighting (intensification, LED), screens and the new cultivation, much has changed.
The acquired knowledge and insights have not yet been properly incorporated into education, which is essential for students' insight into the energy consumption and savings of greenhouses. In addition, lecturers have not been sufficiently recorded in manuals and new model-based educational tools have to be tested against the experiences and results from practice, which requires a lot of effort. For these reasons an upgrade and documentation process for Glassim including the development of teaching materials is necessary.
