Entrepreneurial learning & innovation: casus ISM Oost-Europa

Entrepreneurs in Eastern European countries have been facing major challenges since the end of the communist regime and the accession of these countries to the EU in 2004 and 2007. However, little is known about factors that determine business development and strategy and the effect this has on the surroundings (context) and culture in which these entrepreneurs have to operate.

This is one of the central issues of the project ‘Business development and the role of interactive learning methods in the strategic management and entrepreneurship of dairy farmers in Poland, Lithuania and Slovenia,’ summarised as the ‘Eastern Europe project’. Another question that the project aims to answer pertains to the effects of an interactive learning method, interactive strategic management (ISM), on entrepreneurship and strategy determination. It is expected that this kind of learning process can contribute to the degree to which entrepreneurs – dairy farmers in this project – are able to anticipate continuous changes. Whether or not this is the case also depends on the context in which the entrepreneurs have to operate. This is a central theme in the ‘Entrepreneurial learning and innovation’ project in which the Eastern Europe project is one of the cases.
