Farming systems - robustness, resilience and adaptation - characterisation, data and description

In most developing countries agriculture will be transformed into a more productive market oriented economic sector in the coming decade. Intensification of agriculture is unavoidable. This intensification however has to be sustainable. Moreover systems need to be robust and resilient to climate change. To be able to design pertinent support strategies a better understanding of the intrinsic robustness and resilience of the current systems is needed. This project explores the data requirement to be able to evaluate this. It will offer an operational concept for the conceptual terms of robustness and resilience.
