Resilient institutions

The REFORIM project addresses resilience issues in contemporary food systems from an institutional perspective. The project focuses on informational, financial and material disconnects which are considered an important source of resilience problems because they interrupt feedback loops that are essential to the sustainable use of social-ecological systems. Empirically, the project focuses on the patterns of connects and disconnects between metropolitan food systems and social-ecological systems with their ecosystem services in rural areas. Conceptually, the project focuses on the role of institutions in creating either disconnects or vital feedback loops and develops tools to assess the resilience-supporting capability of institutional arrangements, links.
