Skylark case study

The water quality in agricultural areas in the Netherlands does not comply with the EU normative (Water Framework Directive). It is therefore crucial that Water Boards and farmers work together to improve this situation. One of the problems observed is that the water quality data are so rough that they do not reflect the actions taken by the farmers, and hence do not help to improve the management practices. The Skylark Midden Brabant group of arable farmers is eager to work with the Water Board on water quality. The Skylark Foundation (Stichting Veldleeuwerik) is a national organisation of mainly intensive arable farmers that strive to improve their sustainability achievements.  Veldleeuwerik looks for collaboration with Water Boards to support the members of the network to improve the management practices resulting in improved water quality.

Water Board De Dommel and the Skylark Midden Brabant group of arable farmers seek collaboration to improve water quality. This project aims to develop an approach for joint learning, including the use of data, models and maps, and the layout and monitoring of a smart buffer strip.
