Zeehonden opvang

In the Netherlands, since 1952 seals have been rescued, taken for in rehabilitation centres and released back into the wild. In 1994, in tripartite agreements with Germany and Denmark it was decided to minimize the number of seals. What are the biological considerations involved?
In this project the biological arguments from the existing Guidelines are discussed in the light of new information; if applicable, supplemented with new insights and arguments. Both the current state of the populations and the biological considerations that should be made regarding seal reabilitation, are taken into account.
