My present position is senior researcher at Wageningen Economic Research and leader of the policy research theme Agricultural economics, markets and trade for the ministry of Economic Affairs. I graduated as an agricultural economist from Wageningen University in 1980. After two years as a staff member at the Netherlands Cooperation Council for Agriculture and Horticulture, I served as a lecturer and scientific coordinator at Wageningen University. I took my PhD in 1994 on the thesis Agricultural Economics and Policymaking: A Pragmatic Criticism. In 1995 I joined the Agricultural Economics Research Institute LEI in The Hague. Until 2003 I was the chief editor of the annual Agricultural Economic Report of the Netherlands. From 2002 until 2010 I led the Public Issues Division of the Institute and coordinated the research programme on National and International Agricultural Policies for the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature Management and Fisheries. From 2010 until 2012 I served as the business unit manager of the Natural Resources Division of LEI Wageningen UR.
