Martijn has a background in International Land and Water Management and most recently completed his PhD dissertation. His research was part of the NWO-funded Dynamic Deltas research programme and compared flood management strategies in the Dutch, Bangladesh and Vietnamese deltas. Thematically this study zoomed in on flood restoration initiatives, or projects where flood dynamics are purposefully brought back on lands that have been closed off for flooding and sedimentation for quite some time. Martijn has an interest in ecosystem-based flood management, water governance and knowledge co-production for water management policy.
He is currently working as a postdoc in the NWO-TTW funded All-risk research programme. This programme conducts research on how to implement new flood safety standards in the Netherlands. His objective is to analyse and better understand knowledge co-production processes in the field of water management policy.
