M (Moniek) van Zutphen PhD

Moniek followed her training in Nutrition and Health at Wageningen University. She first obtained her Bachelor's degree and then completed her Master's degree with a specialisation in Epidemiology and Public Health. 

After obtaining het Master’s degree in 2005, Moniek worked as a junior researcher at the National Institute of Public Health (RIVM). She worked on several projects which were mainly focused on modifiable lifestyle factors and obesity. In 2011 she returned to the department of Human Nutrition at Wageningen University and worked as the study coordinator of the COLON study. Being involved in all aspects of this epidemiological study motivated her to start her PhD within the COLON study. In 2015 she wrote a grant proposal, that was funded by the Dutch Cancer Society, which resulted in Moniek’s PhD project.

From 2017-2021 Moniek worked on her PhD project that focused on lifestyle after colorectal cancer under supervision of Prof. Ellen Kampman, Prof. Hendriek Boshuizen en Dr. Fränzel van Duijnhoven. After her PhD project, Moniek has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at RadboudUMC with Dr. Alina Vrieling, where she focused on lifestyle after early stage bladder cancer diagnosis. Currently, Moniek works as a postdoctoral researcher conducting meta-analyses on the association between early life exposures and cancer risk.
