After obtaining my bachelor of Business Administration at Hanzehogeschool Groningen, I felt motivated to continue studying to be able to use the knowledge and skills obtained during my HBO International Business and Management studies, in a responsible and sustainable way, for example in the sector of corporate social responsibility or in relation to product certification.
International Development Studies in Wageningen offered me a good opportunity to expand my knowledge in relation to development economics as well as subjects in the area of sociology of rural development. Besides this, I was able to obtain good analytical and research skills, which in combination with the skills obtained at my previous eduction, provides me with practical as well as analytical insights into issues related to development economics.
I got the opportunity to get to know the world of development cooperation from different perspectives in the second year, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Netherlands (internship) and by investigating the impact of a coffee certification project on small coffee farmers in Peru (for my thesis). Last but not least, it should be mentioned that the study environment in Wageningen is very multicultural, flexible and personal, which adds to an overall great experience!!! (She is currently doing a Ph.D.at Wageningen University.)
In 2009, Fedes van Rijn won the KLV thesis prize for her thesis 'A Socio-Economic Impact Study of the THE Foundation Project Coffee Peru' under the supervision of Prof. E. Bulte.
