You can get a full or partial refund of your Article Processing Charges in Open Access journals or in ‘hybrid’ subscription journals.
Publishing Open Access often means that the author pays Article Processing Charges (APCs). The APCs vary widely between publishers and journals. The average APC per article costs approximately € 1,500, although Wageningen UR researchers mostly publish
in journals with higher APCs.
You can fully or partially subsidise your APCs in Open Access journals or in ‘hybrid’ subscription journals. Under certain conditions the NWO, EU FP7 and EU Horizon 2020 fund Open Access publishing during and after a project. As part of the big deals with Springer and SAGE publishers, Open Access publishing in many subscription journals is free of charge.
