The 25th International Pig Veterinary Society Congress (IPVS 2018) and 2018 International PRRS Symposium will be held in Chongqing, China from June 11 to June 14, 2018.
Astrid de Greeff and Norbert Stockhofe will represent Wageningen Bioveterinary Research at the combined symposium of the Internation Porcine Veterinary Society and the Porcine Respiratory and Reproductive Syndrome Virus association. Astrid will give an oral presentation entitled: ‘Probiotics in pigs affect host responses and microbiota composition Immunomodulation on Escherichia coli infection’. She will present data on the effect of probiotic administration in piglets on intestinal health and microbiota composition. In recent years gut health in livestock gained more and more interest, since it is widely acknowledged that the gut plays a pivotal role in development of the immune system. Manipulation of intestinal development, including colonization by microbiota, can therefore have long lasting effects on health. Norbert and Astrid will present two posters on pathogenesis of Streptococcus suis as well. S. suis still is a worldwide and costly problem in the pig industry. WBVR is partner in a large EU project entitled PIGSs, of which results will be presented at the IPVS.
