The AWA discussion group focuses on sharing expertise on a wide range of topics within the field of animal welfare. Anyone within Wageningen University with an interest in animal welfare is welcome. Currently four groups with the Animal Science department are involved: Adaptation Physiology group (ADP), Animal Production Systems group (APS), Behavioural Ecology group (BHE), and Wageningen Livestock Research. We cover topics such as:

·        Animal behaviour, cognition and emotion

·        Animal health and immunology

·        Behaviour and stress physiology

·        Assessing animal welfare

·        Animal welfare within farm sustainability

We aim to have talks once per month on Mondays/Tuesdays from 12:15 to 12:45. The aim is for speakers to present for 10-15 min leaving ample time for discussion and feedback. The talk should present a specific problem or question for discussion/feedback. The speakers may present anything from results needing discussing, proposal ideas, experimental designs, statistical procedures or simply novel ideas needing some feedback.

If you would like to present please contact Laura Webb (
